Gifted Students benefit from University of Aberdeen Bursaries

The University of Aberdeen has announced the winners of its annual bursary scheme, which will result in 40 prospective students from across Scotland having their tuition fees paid by the University for the duration of their studies.

Launched just last year, the new bursary scheme replaced the traditional competitive bursary examination. It awards students who have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement and benefits not only gifted, young school-leavers, but also selected mature students.

Each student will receive £1,000 every year throughout his or her studies, unlike previous bursary schemes, where the maximum award was just £100 annually.

Lorraine Manders, Director of Student Recruitment at the University, said around 160 applications were received from throughout the UK, covering almost all the University’s degree programmes. An unusually high number, 64, applied for the medical programme.

“Each application was of an exceptionally high standard of academic achievement and choosing just 40 was extremely difficult, but we look forward to welcoming these talented young people to the University in September.”

The 40 awards were made to the following students, who will start studying for the degrees shown in September:
