Monday 28 June will be a memorable day for University of Aberdeen PhD student Daniel Gare. Together with another 400 young researchers and students, he will have an opportunity to meet and listen to presentations by the 16 current Nobel Laureates in Medicine at the week-long 17th meeting of the Nobel Prize Winners of Medicine in Lindau, Germany.
"This a fantastic opportunity." commented Daniel. "Not only will I have a chance to hear presentations by Nobel Laureates who are major, leading figures in their own field, but there will be time to have one-to-one discussions with them and you never know where that might lead."
Originally from Crowborough in East Sussex, Daniel (aged 26 years) is being sponsored to attend the meeting by the UK's Institute of Biology. A student in the University's Zoology Department, his research project is looking at ways of preventing the transmission of malaria by mosquitoes.
Head of Department, Professor Bill Mordue added: "Each year the Institute of Biology offers a place to three universities in the UK to attend this important event. The Department was extremely pleased when one of the places was offered to Aberdeen and I was delighted to be able to offer it to Daniel following consultation with my research staff.
Not only is it a wonderful opportunity for Daniel but it is an honour for this University to be represented."
