The University of Aberdeen has committed to a rolling peogramme of works to provide improved access to its facilities for students, staff and visitors.
Director of Estates, Stephen Gordon said: “The University is an equal opportunities employer so it is important that the access we offer to the disabled and particularly the wheelchair-bound, is suitable.
“The programme of works has now incorporated the most ancient part of our King’s College Campus, including the 500 year old King’s Chapel, the Conference and Visitor Centre as well as Elphinstone Hall.
We still, however, have a lot of work to do and this will form part of a major works programme over the next few years.”
“We are delighted that Anne Begg has agreed to give us advice on what we are doing and how suitable it is.”
MP for Aberdeen South, Anne Begg added: “The University of Aberdeen is giving a tremendous signal to all organisations in both the public and private sectors to improve access for the disabled.
“I am delighted to be able to offer them advice based on my own experience and look forward to watching progress as the programme rolls out through the University.”
