Performance Indicators for the Higher Education Sector

Performance Indicators for the Higher Education Sector

Commenting on the introduction of Performance Indicators to the Higher Education sector, Professor Ian Macdonald, Senior Vice Principal at the University of Aberdeen said: “We are pleased that we now have more reliable indicators with which to assess our performance over future years.

“While we are broadly in line with national trends and Government policy, it is good to see that for part-time students entering the University, we have the highest proportion in Scotland from neighbourhoods where participation in Higher Education is low.

“Mature students are also well represented, accounting for almost a fifth of our intake.

“I believe this is a real success for our Centre for Continuing Education in its approach to widening access through part-time study.

“On the research efficiency side, I am delighted that, size for size, we turn out more PhDs than all other Scottish Universities bar one.

“Although we are encouraged by these figures, we are continually striving to improve these standards, ensuring that studying at Aberdeen is a high quality experience for students of all ages and from all educational backgrounds.”
