The University of Aberdeen is seeing a significant rise in overseas application, in direct contrast to the slump in overseas recruitment nationwide recently revealed in figures from the British Council. The University has every continent and over 115 nationalities represented on its campus.
Nationwide, the British Council has reported an 11% drop in overseas recruitment. The University of Aberdeen is bucking the national trend with a strong increase of 26% in its overseas applications. Director of Student Recruitment & Admissions Services, Lori Manders said: “The University of Aberdeen is recognised internationally as being a quality provider of higher education. In light of the Prime Minister’s recent initiative to double the UK’s intake of overseas students, we believe that the University of Aberdeen is in a strong position, and we are getting behind the initiative as much as we can.”
“As in the rest of the UK, one of our growth areas in overseas recruitment is China, but unlike the rest of the UK, we are seeing a significant rise in applications from Latin America, and programmes at the University such as engineering, management, law and computing are attracting considerable attention.”
The University has recently established an office in the United States to manage its international recruitment activities in North America. An experienced admissions professional based in New York has been appointed and charged with planning and executing a recruitment strategy based on a recently-completed feasibility study.
