One of the UK’s leading experts on asthma will talk about reasons for the increase in the respiratory disorder at a public lecture later this week.
Professor Anthony Seaton, of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Medicine at the University of Aberdeen, will discuss various theories about an increasingly toxic environment. He will then explain why he thinks the reason for the increase in asthma is not this, but that the population as whole has become more sensitive.
He will also summarise research that sheds light on factors that have increased our sensitivity to allergens.
The lecture has been organised as part of the programme of the Aberdeen Branch of the British Association for the Advancement of Science (BA), and will take place on Wednesday, January 17, at 7.30pm in the Fraser Noble Building (FN3). Admission is free.
The BA promotes public understanding and development of science, engineering and technology throughout the UK.
