BSc Open Day

BSc Open Day

The University of Aberdeen is offering its first open day for prospective science students on Wednesday, February 28. Over 1,000 potential BSc students will be coming to the activity-filled day and more than 300 will be staying overnight to enjoy the full experience.

The University of Aberdeen has had a 17% increase in the number of science applications, and is also bucking the national trend of declining applications, out-performing every other Scottish university with the exception of St Andrews.

In the morning, prospective students will hear about student welfare, finance, careers, Internet and e-mail and life on campus. They will also be offered tours of the campus.

The afternoon will see them visiting the various science departments to enjoy their programmes and displays and to meet the department professors and lecturers. All of the science departments, including the departments of Agriculture & Forestry, Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, Computing Science, Geology & Petroleum Geology, Geography, Mathematical Sciences, Molecular & Cell Biology, Plant & Soil Science, Psychology and Zoology will throw open their doors to let prospective students see what happens on campus during term time.

Professor Dominic Houlihan, Vice Principal and Dean of Science and Engineering said: “This day will build upon the success of our general open day last August. Now we are letting prospective students in to see the campus in ‘working mode’. We are sure they will be impressed by our facilities and environment.”

The University of Aberdeen is one of Scotland’s top institutions. It has a superb reputation and its wide choice of programmes and flexible entry has proven to be attractive. The university’s success in placing 97% of graduates in work or further study within 6 months of graduating highlights the demand in the market place for its graduates.
