David Puttnam to launch Aberdeen CPD enterprise

More than 150 business leaders and academics from across Scotland will attend the official launch this week of the University of Aberdeen's continuing professional development enterprise by the celebrated British film producer David Puttnam.

Prospect CPD was established last year and is now stepping up its efforts to bring more business clients through the University's doors. The launch event will take place at King's College Conference Centre on Thursday, May 17, at 12.15pm. Grampian Television news anchor Chris Harvey will present the event as part of the company’s corporate sponsorship for the launch.

Professor Ian Macdonald, Senior Vice Principal, said the University was delighted to welcome Lord Puttnam to Aberdeen to share his vision on the benefits of education and industry working together and to launch what is an important and exciting venture for the University.

He said: "Lord Puttnam is a passionate advocate of education and life-long learning initiatives and advises a number of UK Government departments. The national drive for professional development has never been stronger and, through the growth and success of Prospect CPD, the University will help to meet the learning and training needs of the business community."

The Prospect CPD mission is to be a centre of excellence for the development and provision of continuing professional development opportunities. It represents a core element of the University's strategic commitment to strengthen industry and community links, widen participation and develop innovative teaching methods.

Jane McDonald, Director of Prospect CPD, said: "The launch of Prospect CPD offers an exciting opportunity for the University to build on its existing partnerships with industry and the professions.

"We work with organisations who see people as their most valuable asset to gain competitive advantage in a changing business world. Our approach is grounded on meeting industry needs, on harnessing University expertise and providing learning solutions which are relevant, flexible and customised."

The launch will bring into focus an exciting range of CPD provision from specialist knowledge programmes and training solutions to E-learning, conferences and seminars, and postgraduate training.
