Higher Education Experience for Secondary Schoolers

Higher Education Experience for Secondary Schoolers

On the 25th and 26th of June, 165 secondary school pupils from The Gordon Schools, Huntly will have the chance to experience what it is like to be a university pupil - a few years early!

The S1 and S2 pupils will take part in a wide-ranging programme covering everything from "What it's like to study Science and Medicine" to "How Museums Work" at Marischal Museum and "What it's Like to Study for a degree in Law." They will also receive advice on careers and tour the University of Aberdeen campus.

The students will choose from four "menus" for the two days - choosing from a range of activities being held at the University of Aberdeen, The Robert Gordon University, Northern College of Education, and Marischal Museum.

Raymond Bissett, Convenor of Aberdeenshire Council and President of the 3sixty?University for Children and Communities will welcome pupils at the start of their Higher Education Experience.

The activity is taking place as part of the 3sixty University for Children and Communities (UCC), a collaborative project involving a range of education and training providers in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire, including the University of Aberdeen. The aim of the project is to increase participation in all educational opportunities by people of all ages. The 3sixty UCC works with nursery, primary, and secondary age children and young people, as well as with adults. It was launched in the AB16 and AB54 areas of Aberdeen in October 2000.
