Aberdeen University agrees student accommodation partnership with Jarvis plc

The University of Aberdeen is pleased to announce a strategic new partnership with international facilities management group Jarvis plc for some of its student accommodation halls.

The University has exchanged contracts Jarvis for the acquisition and subsequent operation of four halls of residence in Aberdeen, which includes 588 bed spaces at Don Street, Linksfield Road, Rosemount Hall, and St Peter Street. Jarvis will operate the halls of residence in partnership with the University, as part of the University’s residences restructuring programme.

Professor The Lord Sewel, Senior Vice Principal, University of Aberdeen, said: “We are delighted with the sale of student accommodation to Jarvis. The University investigated the opportunities available for these sites and decided that the selling of these properties was the most beneficial option. The new owners will honour all of the University’s leases for 2001/2002.

“This new partnership with Jarvis will enable the University increasingly to concentrate on its core activities of teaching and research, whilst students will have the benefit of having their high quality accommodation made available from a professional organisation.”

Jarvis will take over the four halls of residence on September 10, 2001.

On appointment, Jarvis will be responsible for the future management and operation of these halls. The new owners will liaise closely with the University to meet the changing needs of the students at Aberdeen University.

Andrew Sutton, Chief Executive of Jarvis Accommodation Services, said: “The appointment by the University of Aberdeen further demonstrates the confidence that the higher education sector places in Jarvis to provide it with innovative, forward thinking solutions for the funding and management of university accommodation.

“Jarvis will continue to provide high quality, safe accommodation that will enhance the learning environment for Aberdeen’s students.”
