Business leaders invited to discuss the Knowledge Economy

Europe's leading socio-economic and inspirational speaker, Richard Scase, is confirmed as the keynote speaker at a forthcoming event Routes to Knowledge: People and the Knowledge Economy - Unlocking the Future to be hosted by the University of Aberdeen on Thursday June 27, 2002.

The principal aim of the day is to share expert opinion among key company decision makers, CEOs and human resource strategists on how the 'new' economy affects retention and development of industry's key resource - people.

Delivering the keynote speech at the event which is being held at King's College Conference Centre is Richard Scase, 'European Business Speaker of the Year 2001'. He is also Europe's leading business futurist and socio-economic forecaster, author of Britain 2010: the Changing Business Landscape and Living in the Corporate Zoo; regular broadcaster and writer.

Mr Scase said: "With human capital as their core asset, companies are being forced to reinvent their management cultures and operating practices. Knowledge workers expect to be motivated through corporate leadership, strategic vision and performance related work schemes. If these are not in place, those who trade with their intellectual capital simply 'walk out the door'."

Other speakers at the event include Maggie Morrison, Scotland and Ireland Operations Director for Cisco - one of the world's leading Internet infrastructure companies. Ms Morrison will focus on how Cisco has developed their organisation's intellectual capital and given staff the freedom to learn through virtual team working, knowledge sharing and continuous staff development.

The event will also involve parallel and sectoral discussion groups on key topics relating to people and business management in the knowledge economy as well as a post event web forum where delegates can share thoughts and seek advise on taking forward approaches.
