North East public invited to attend rectorial installation ceremony

The North East public will get the chance to see the installation of top celebrity cook and broadcaster Clarissa Dickson Wright, returned for the second time as Rector for the University of Aberdeen. The ceremony will take place at King's College Chapel on Thursday 9 May, 3.30pm. For the first time the University are extending an invitation to members of the public to attend the ceremony.

Celebrity cook Clarissa has taken a high-profile approach to the job of Rector and made history in 1998, when she became the first woman Rector at Aberdeen in more than 500 years. Her return as Aberdeen Rector for a second term is believed to be another first for the post.

The Rector, an ancient post dating back to the foundation of the University in 1495, has been, since 1860, the students' representative on the University Court. Rectors serve for three years and appoint to the Court a Rector's Assessor; student's interests are further served on the Court ex-officio by the President of the Students' Association.

Public admission to the Installation on Thursday 9 May, 3.30pm at King's College Chapel, University of Aberdeen, is by free ticket only, available from the University of Aberdeen, telephone: 01224 272091
