Joblink Student Employment Service set to hold 8th Recruitment Fair

With the 2001/2002 University term drawing to a close, Joblink staff are anticipating a dramatic increase in the demand for their services. At this time of year, students in particular are looking to secure employment for the summer vacation. In response - Wednesday 8th May will see the 8th Recruitment Fair held by Joblink at Aberdeen University Students Association Student Union, Gallowgate. First held in December 1998, the recruitment fairs have become well established in Aberdeen and are now organised bi-annually to assist those students seeking part-time or vacation employment.

Joblink Manager, Steve Rance commented that "because of continuing financial hardships on students the event will save a vast amount of time and money in their search for employment for the Summer vacation, cutting telephone calls, postage, travel costs and time spent searching for vacancies. Other benefits students receive from the Joblink service include guidance on balancing work with study, Tax & NI contributions, writing CVs and interview skills."

"In turn, employers will save valuable time and costs spent in their recruitment activities meeting potential employees straight away. Employers will also benefit from the calibre of applicants they will be meeting; as indicated by numerous employers who have attended previous fairs and still keep coming back! Students provide a valuable pool of flexible labour that can bring enthusiasm and new ideas to their organisation. In addition, students are intelligent, quick to learn and therefore provide good value for money."

"There are a variety of employers and organisations who will be represented at the event, including confirmed attendees such as Thistle Hotels, TMP Melville Craig, Driver Hire, Option 1 Security, The Marcliffe at Pitfodels and Aberdeen University Union.

"We are always on the lookout for more potential employers and the event is expected to be just as great a success as previous fairs. It is hoped that a considerable number of placements will be made during the afternoon to further ease the burden of student debt"
