Think you know about teaching, think again! University of Aberdeen to host Open Evening for Postgrad

University of Aberdeen to host Open Evening for Postgraduate Certificate in Education (secondary)

The University of Aberdeen will host an Open Evening for 2002/2003 entry to the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Secondary) - PGCE(S) on Tuesday 21 May at King's College Conference Centre from 6.00pm. Prospective students are invited to attend to learn more about their career in teaching. The evening will be hosted by Joe McDowall (Programme Director of the PGCE) who will discuss careers in secondary school teaching. Prospective students will also have the opportunity to meet with current PGCE students and learn about their experience of the course.

The University of Aberdeen places a high value on partnership. In the case of the PGCE(S) programme, partnership focuses on maintaining links between the University and its associated schools in order to create the best possible conditions for the initial professional development of students. The aim of the PGCE(S) is to enable students to become effective subject teachers and to attain high standards of professional practice. The course also prepares students for making a positive contribution to the development of pupils in the full range of contexts within the secondary school.

Commenting on the Open Evening, Cathy Macaslan, Vice Dean, Faculty of Education said: "This is a great opportunity to get information on secondary teaching from teachers and student teachers. It will give a sense of what is so enjoyable and worthwhile about this job. We hope to see interested people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences who have something to offer the education of young people. Whether you are interested now or might be in the future come along and find out what's so great about teaching!"
