Listen. Opening chords struck for the new season of University Music

Aberdeen audiences can look forward to celebrated soloists, inspired programmes and new and established talent when the Music in the University 2002/2003 new season of recitals starts on Sunday October 6. The opening chords for the season will be struck by Gilbert Biberian with a guitar recital in King's College chapel at 3:00pm. Gilbert Biberian will also be taking a guitar masterclass/workshop on Friday October 4 at 7:00pm in P17, Powis Gate, College Bounds.

University Music aims to attract and encourage a new and wider audience to enjoy the sounds of the new season with a distinctive new look programme. The new season will also offer money-saving options for concert-goers.

The acclaimed guitarist Gilbert Biberian, who has worked with Piere Boulez and Luciano Berio, will kick off the season with a programme to include the world premiere of Reflexions 1 by Roger Williams, and in March the Scottish lutenist Rob MacKillop will bring to life some of the beautiful music from the surviving manuscripts of Scotland's great houses and castles.

Dr Roger Williams, Director of University Music, said: "Whether you are new to classical music or a regular concert-goer, there really is something for everyone in our season of popular and unexpected music from around the world.

"This is a special season for us because staff and students from the new Faculty of Education join us for the first time enriching our concerts and musical groups."
