FE/HE Information Days

FE/HE Information Days

Over 30 further education students from Aberdeen College and Banff & Buchan College will be attending the University of Aberdeen tomorrow and Wednesday (March 25 and 26, 2003) to experience at first hand, life at University.

37 students will spend a full day at the University taking part in a range of activities to help them overcome the 'culture shock' experienced by some students when making the transition from college to university degree study. Organised collaboratively under the FE/HE Transition Project with the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen College and Banff & Buchan College, these Information Days for Colleges have been planned specifically to give FE students a familiarisation experience with the two Universities.

Students currently studying a range of courses leading to Higher National qualifications (including Sports Coaching, Science, and Social Science) will be shown around the campus; meet various Departmental Heads; try out the range of services and facilities within the Library and listen to a lecture given by two current students on their experience of life at the University of Aberdeen.

Denise Shearer, FE/HE Transition Project Officer said: "This is a great opportunity for students from colleges to visit the two universities where events have been tailored specifically for them. By getting an idea of the university campus and learning environment before they arrive in September, students should be able to settle into their degree studies more quickly and effectively."

The FE/HE Transition Project started in January 2002 and is a regional collaboration the University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen College, Banff & Buchan College and The Robert Gordon University. Under the umbrella of the North Forum for Widening Participation, its overall aim is to investigate and address issues concerning entry of college students into the advanced levels of undergraduate degree study.
