Nature Tots - class sizes now doubled

Pre-school children in the Aberdeen area have a further chance to take part in an innovative educational programme featuring the environment and natural history following the doubling of spaces available on the next Nature Tots course this Friday (May 30, 2003) at the Natural History Centre, University of Aberdeen.

Designed specifically for pre-school children and their parents, Nature Tots is a series of one hour classes run each month over the coming year. This month's class will focus on butterflies and moths with previous topics having included fossils and modern day dinosaurs, as well as rainforests and creepy crawlies.

Mandy Tulloch, Development Coordinator at the Natural History Centre said; "Nature Tots is an exciting programme of activities for pre-school children and their parents designed specifically to inspire them in the environment and natural history. Children attending have loved finding out about insects and creepy crawlies and I'm sure they will be fascinated with the selection of tropical butterflies on show this month. We are delighted that we have been able to increase our class sizes and so encourage even more local children to get involved with the environment."

Very high interest in this programme has resulted in class sizes for future sessions being doubled to 30 places each. This follows earlier introduction of additional afternoon classes. Ms Tulloch explained; "Demand for this new programme has come from parents and it is terrific that we have already filled the morning session. An important aspect of both classes will be the fact that adults attending will be given further ideas and suggestions that they can follow up with the children at home, encouraging further investigation and involvement in the environment."

Further information is available from Mandy Tulloch, tel: 01224 493288 or email: m.tulloch@abdn.ac.uk.

Classes are free of charge with booking essential. All children are to be accompanied by an adult.

The Nature Tots educational programme is an example of the University of Aberdeen's ongoing commitment to sustainable development and environmental improvement.
