Move over Davina, Big Brother returns to Aberdeen

Move over Davina, Big Brother returns to Aberdeen

If the Scottish contingent on this year's Big Brother aren't inspiring you, there is an alternative. The University of Aberdeen is holding its fourth University-wide pre-application Open Day on Tuesday, August 26, and the Big Brother style Diary Room is back by popular demand.

One of the most popular attractions at last year's events, the Big Brother style Diary Room allows prospective students, parents and teachers to give feedback on the Open Day on camera. Visitors to last year's event enjoyed their experience and found the Diary Room offered a novel twist on the usual evaluation forms.

Graham Wood attended the 2002 Open Day and has recently completed his first year of an MA in Anthropology. He commented: "The Open Day was one of the things which made me decide to study at the University of Aberdeen. Everyone was really friendly - it was a bit different to others I'd been to which made Aberdeen have a bit of an edge."

Last year's Open Day attracted more than 4,000 visitors from throughout the UK and Europe and this year's event looks set to be even more popular. In addition to the Diary Room, visitors will be able to stay overnight in University Halls of Residence, attend a party at the Students' Union, meet with staff and attend mini-lectures and get an opportunity for a real taste of student life.

The University's Marketing Officer, Lisa Rattray, said: "We aim to make the day as fun as possible for visitors and try to give them a real flavour for what life as a student at the University of Aberdeen is like."

A whole host of fun activities will be on offer, including a live demonstration of cooking on a budget by the University Rector, Clarissa Dickson-Wright, and a musical extravaganza of electro-acoustic music.
