A senior Aberdeen consultant has been awarded a prestigious Medal by The Royal College of General Practitioners, in recognition for his exceptional work towards the College's aims of high quality patient care. The President's Medal has been awarded to a leading doctor from the University of Aberdeen at a recent award ceremony.
Dr Ross Taylor, a Senior Lecturer (Clinical Consultant), at the Department of General Practice and Primary Care has been awarded the Medal, awarded annually to a Fellow who has done much to promote the aims and objectives of the College but has not previously achieved recognition for that work.
Throughout his professional life, Dr Taylor has taken a keen interest in prescribing issues to the benefit of patients, colleagues and students. He has always been willing to advise various College honorary secretaries on medicines and prescribing issues and to represent the interests of the profession through his work on the UK Committee on Safety of Medicines.
Dr Taylor was proud to receive such a prestigious Medal. He said: "I consider it a great honour and am delighted to receive the President's Medal from the Royal College of Practitioners."
Professor Stephen D Logan, Provost and Head of the College of Life Sciences and Medicine was extremely pleased to hear of Dr Taylor's accolade. He said: "I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Dr Taylor on behalf of the University of Aberdeen for the award given by the Royal College of General Practitioners. I am delighted that his work at the University is being acknowledged by this prestigious award.
"At Aberdeen, the Department of General Practice and Primary Care seeks to support primary care practitioners through research, teaching and service development activities and this is most certainly being achieved through the work being undertaken by Dr Taylor and his colleagues."
Dr Taylor was awarded his Medal at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) on Friday 14 November 2003 at the Victoria Park Plaza Hotel in London.
