PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: Professor Paul Beaumont, Head of School of Law, Professor Roderick Paisley Course Co-ordinator with Aberdeen solicitors will be available for a photo Thursday 22 January at 11am, in the Law Library, Taylor Building

The University of Aberdeen's School of Law has this month launched a training course aimed at newly qualified lawyers. The course is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland. This is the first time the School of Law has offered young lawyers the opportunity to refresh their legal skills and address issues experienced in the workplace. It deals with practical issues such as drafting skills, conveyancing, risk management and client care. The whole aim is to assist young lawyers in becoming better lawyers.

Professor Roderick Paisley, course co-ordinator said: "This is a unique teaching initiative and we are delighted to be strengthening our links with local law firms. The course has proved to be very popular and we look forward to repeating it in August of this year, in particular we are keen to extend attendance from lawyers outwith Aberdeen including colleagues in Inverness and beyond."

The course is offered in conjunction with The Law Society of Scotland and strengthens the Law School's close links with the legal profession, many of whose members teach part-time in the University. The majority of the tutors are experienced practising lawyers from Aberdeen Firms but, with an emphasis on practicalities, they have included experts from other fields such as accountancy and insurance. The course lasts 3 weeks and has been well attended by solicitors from firms including Raeburn Christie, Aberdein Considine, Stronachs, Paull and Williamsons, Ledingham Chalmers and Burnett & Reid. The course will be repeated in August.
