The Templeton Prize is one of the most coveted prizes in academia, valued at more than one million dollars. It is the world's best-known religion prizes and is given each year to a living person to encourage and honour those who advance spiritual matters.

The highly acclaimed lecturer and self-described radical environmentalist will give this fascinating lecture as part of a UK tour presented by the Templeton Foundation who recently awarded him the coveted Templeton Prize - an award for raising awareness about how science can lead to discoveries about spirituality.

Dr Nigel Dower, Senior Lecturer School of Divinity and Religious Studies & Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen, who has made the arrangements for this visit, said: "Professor Holmes Rolston has been to Aberdeen before to give lectures, and it will be a great pleasure to welcome him back as a leading thinker about environmental ethics to give a lecture on an issue of such topical relevance."

Thursday's lecture will be chaired by Professor Seth Kunin, Director of Research for the College of Arts and Social Sciences. The lecture will be open to the public, and admission is by free ticket available from the Office of External Affairs, tel: (01224) 273874, or email: events@abdn.ac.uk Following the lecture, there will be a drinks reception for all guests attending.
