Drama students premiere at Edinburgh Fringe Festival
The University of Aberdeen's critically acclaimed Centre Stage Theatre Company will make their debut at Scotland's largest and most renowned arts festival this month.
The University's highly successful student drama group will perform two, one-act, comedy plays at the world-renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival next week.
The festival is currently running in the capital city, and the Centre Stage Theatre Company will stand as an example of the high quality of theatre at the University of Aberdeen when they stage their productions between Wednesday August 25, and Saturday, August 28.
The group have secured one of Edinburgh's most prominent arts venues, Rocket, located in the Roxy Art House, owned by Richard Demarco, who is a leading figure in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Supported by funding from the University of Aberdeen, the cast of 13, and the crew of five will perform The Real Inspector Hound by Tom Stoppard, and Audience by Michael Frayn. Both plays are light-hearted acts and will be ideal for an easy-going 6.50pm audience, with the performance lasting around one hour and 20 minutes.
Centre Stage Theatre Company President Lynsey-Anne Moffat said the group were delighted to be taking part in such an illustrious event. She said: "This is the first time that Centre Stage have decided to take a production to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and we are very excited about this venture.
"Having secured our reputation as one of Aberdeen's finest and most innovative theatre companies, we are now relishing the challenge of taking our unique style to the Fringe.
"We will perform two comedies, which will allow our talented cast and crew to stretch their abilities and really bring the comedy to life. We hope this will be the first of many ventures to the Fringe."
Centre Stage Theatre Company began as a relatively small society in 1992 putting on two shows a year. Since then, the group have continued to go from strength to strength and proudly produce four shows a year in professional arts venues, including The Lemon Tree. Audience numbers continue to rise and their recently performed production of Shakespeare's 'Much Ado About Nothing' was seen by upwards of 100 people per night.
Aside from the four annual shows, the group runs a 'One-Acts Festival', as well as a weekly workshop.
The cast of 13 who will be going to Edinburgh next week includes Lynsey-Anne Moffat, Jamie Ferguson, Jim Nolan, Ariana Marcantonio, Matthew Fielding, Michael Raith, Pamela Donald, Taryn MacDonald, George Leggat, Caroline Ransom, Annabelle Berizzi, Bex Smith, and Andrew Youngson.
The five-strong crew includes James Veitch, Lesley Watson, Lisa Keogh, Melanie Smith, and Kirstin Smith.
