Doing it by the book

Doing it by the book

Experts from the University of Aberdeen have contributed to a textbook which has just hit the shelves and is already proving to be a big seller.

Four Aberdeen academics wrote chapters of the book which was edited by two psychologists and two sociologists including the University’s Dr Edwin van Teijlingen.

This is the second edition of Psychology and Sociology Applied to Medicine which is a jargon-free 192-page introduction to psychology and sociology for health care students.

Dr van Teijlingen said: “It’s another acknowledgement of the excellent reputation the University of Aberdeen has that a number of our staff collaborated on this book for medical students and students studying health and social care.

“It covers a number of areas from maternity care to bereavement. Emotions, communication skills and complementary therapies also explained in an easy to understand fashion which makes this an excellent introductory textbook as well as an essential revision tool for students.”

The others from Aberdeen who contributed to the book are Mike Hepworth from Sociology, Professor Marie Johnson, Psychology, Dr Liesl Osman, Medicine and Therapeutics and Dr. George Deans, General Practice and Primary Care.
