University opens its doors for spooky events

North-east youngsters will get the chance to rattle with skeletons at the University of Aberdeen later this month as part of a series of children's events running during the October school holidays.

The University's Natural History Centre will hold a week of spooky events, from Monday, October 18, to Friday, October 22, where children will be able to handle skulls, bones, and skeletons, ranging from mice, hippos and elephants to whales. They will also explore the Zoology Museum for skeletons and will do some large-scale drawings to take home.

Mandy Tulloch, the Natural History Centre's Development Co-ordinator, said: "Our younger visitors recently told us that they would like to find out more about skeletons on their next visit. What better time of year to find out about bones and skulls than coming up to Halloween?

"We're going to have lots of fun exploring a whole range of animals - from a tiny mouse skull to an entire elephant skeleton - there will be loads to see and do!"

The events are open to three to 12-year-olds and will be repeated twice daily at 10.30am to 12noon, and from 2.30pm to 4pm. Admission is free, but booking is essential and all children must be accompanied by an adult. To book, contact the Natural History Centre on (01224) 493288.
