Dinosaur and fossil fun

Youngsters will journey back many millions of years next week to a time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth.

The University of Aberdeen Natural History Centre is holding two free workshops on Friday (December 5) to give pre-schoolers an insight into the ever popular extinct creatures.

The little visitors will get to handle fossilised dinosaur bones, fossilised plants, the tooth of an extinct cave hyena, and ammonites and trilobites which existed millions of years ago in the ancient seas.

They will also embark on a trail through the Cruickshank Botanic Gardens to see the type of trees that were also around at the time of the dinosaurs.

Sandra Bisset, Education Assistant at the Natural History Centre, has organised next week's sessions which still have a few places available.

She said: "Little ones are fascinated by dinosaurs so we expect this latest in our series of Nature Tots to be extremely popular.

"As well as learning some fun facts about some of the greatest beasts that ever roamed the planet, our visitors will make their own fossils which they can then take home."

Nature Tots are aimed at two to five year olds and the Dinosaurs and Fossils sessions take place next Friday between 10am and 12pm and then again between 2pm and 4pm. To book your free place call 01224 274545 or email href="mailto:nat.hist@abdn.ac.uk">nat.hist@abdn.ac.uk
