Award-winning filmmaker visits Aberdeen

A BAFTA Award-winning filmmaker who captured the horror of the Bosnian war will take the stage in Aberdeen tonight (November 18) to talk about his work.

Pawel Pawlikowski rose to prominence following his 1992 documentary Serbian Epics, which includes scenes of Radovan Karadzic, the former Bosnian Serb leader currently awaiting trial in The Hague for war crimes and genocide.

Pawlikowski followed its success with a number of critically acclaimed features, including Last Resort (2000) and My Summer of Love (2004), both BAFTA Award-winning films.

Now the Polish-born director will field questions about his career at King's College Centre at 6pm tonight as part of the University of Aberdeen's Director's Cut series.

Dr Alan Marcus, Head of Film and Visual Culture, University of Aberdeen said: "Pawel Pawlikowski is a hugely talented filmmaker whose superb body of work has entranced critics and audiences alike.

"Whether it's his meditation on the Bosnian war or, in the case of My Summer of Love, the relationship between two young British women from either side of the class divide, Pawlikowski's work always remains nothing less than compelling.

"We were absolutely delighted when he agreed to participate in our Director's Cut series and are now thoroughly looking forward to another fascinating evening at King's College."

The Director's Cut event featuring Pawel Pawlikowski takes place at King's College Centre, King's College, Old Aberdeen and is followed by a drinks reception hosted by Scottish Screen. Admission is free.
