Thousands visit Careers Service Fair

Over one thousand visitors flocked to the University of Aberdeen yesterday (Thursday 30 October) as the institute’s Career Service hosted its annual Careers Information Fair.

The event, which took place in Elphinstone Hall saw 45 companies representing finance, travel, oil and gas, education, the voluntary and public sectors market their companies to would be graduates of the University.

1400 students representing every academic discipline at the University took the opportunity to speak to representatives of the companies attending to find out about their opportunities for graduates and the possibilities of placements and internships.

"I am delighted with the numbers of students who took the time to attend the fair", said Regina Jaschke from the University of Aberdeen Career's Service, who organised the event: "The initial feedback from both students and employers has been most encouraging. Employers have been able to speak to some truly excellent students and wish to take some of the contacts further and students seem grateful for the opportunity to speak to company representatives face to face."

The Fair aims to promote the extensive range and ability of Aberdeen graduates while providing companies with a pre recruitment opportunity to discuss their requirements with would be employees.

Peter Fantom, Head of the Careers Service, University of Aberdeen said: "We were delighted by the record turnout at this year's fair, increasing evidence that our marketing efforts are paying off and that the vital message of the importance of employability are reaching earlier years undergraduate students whose attendance was significantly up on last year.  In addition the employer numbers and activity at this year's fair were at least on par with previous years, suggesting no major change in employer recruitment behaviour."
