Monster effort from Aberdeen runners

Dozens of staff are shaking off the last of their stiffness after a monster effort at the weekend’s Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running.

University teams took first and second place overall in the Healthy Working Lives 10K Corporate Challenge – and accounted for over a quarter of the participants running on the day.

Complete beginners and advanced runners made up 16 University teams in all, with around 76 staff members taking on the undulating Inverness course.

David's Dapper Dodgers – a team comprising Neil Mitchell, Arnar Arnarson, Debra Gimlin and Marta Trzebiatowska took top spot and were closely followed by the Public Health Panthers, otherwise known as Julie Bruce, Paula Botello, Corri Black and Wes Bramley.

Laura Taylor, the University's Healthy Working Lives Co-ordinator said she was delighted to see so many staff cross the 10K finish line – many for the first time.

"Almost half of our entrants had never run a 10K before so there was a real sense of achievement for a lot of our teams," said Laura.

"We've had great feedback since the run with staff reporting improved fitness and a greater motivation to continue training. It was such a success we're now looking to set up some lunchtime or after work running groups."
