Chinese embassy visit aims to strengthen engineering and medical links with Aberdeen

The University of Aberdeen will host a prestigious group of delegates from the Chinese Embassy today (Tuesday 19 August) as part of a visit which aims to strengthen collaboration between the institute and its counterparts in the Far East.

Representatives from the Science and Technology Division of the Chinese Embassy will meet key academics from within the University's School of Engineering and School of Medical Sciences.

The delegation – which includes Dr Baoqing Wang, the Chinese Embassy's Minster Counsellor for Science and Techonology - will gain insights into the leading research taking place at the institute within these fields.

It is hoped the visit will lead to the development of collaborative opportunities between the University and equivalent research institutes and major industry players in China.

Professor Dominic Houlihan, Vice Principal for Research and Commercialisation at the University, said of the visit: "The University has a burgeoning international reputation for research and innovation within the crucial sectors of Engineering and Medicine.

"Seeking strong collaborative opportunities within both academia and industry is a key objective for the institute and China is one of a number of countries where we have already successfully built links.

"We are delighted to welcome our guests from the Chinese embassy as part of a visit which aims to create further opportunities for the University to work in conjunction with counterparts in the Far East in the future."
