Free evening concerts at King’s

A free evening concert series at the University of Aberdeen gets into full swing tonight (Thursday, August 14) with works from some of the most famous Baroque composers.

Informal musical evenings are taking place every Thursday throughout August in the stained-glass setting of King's College Chapel.

Beginning at 9 pm and lasting around 50 minutes, each concert will feature an inspiring mix of familiar and less well-known music in the medieval venue.

This Thursday will see works by Bach, Handel and Vivaldi performed by University musicians. The remaining two concerts will feature late Romantic music for violin and piano and an appearance from Peter Van de Velde, the organist at Antwerp Cathedral for an evening of Bach.

Director of Music and Organist to the University, Dr Roger Williams, said: "We are thrilled that once again the doors of our unique medieval Chapel will be opening on summer evenings for informal recitals by such celebrated musicians.

"The magnificent Aubertin organ will be heard at the fourth and final concert, while the series as a whole will present music from the Medieval to the Romantic periods.  The Chapel is a truly special setting and a perfect place for people to come and share the experience of listening to some wonderful music."
