Aberdeen hosts academics from world leading Singapore University

Representatives from a world leading Singapore university, have visited The University of Aberdeen this week as part of a trip which aims to develop teaching and research links.

Professor Yong Tian CHEW and Dr Wai Lam LOH from the National University of Singapore (NUS) – which was recently ranked 33rd in the world in the Times Higher Education Supplement Quacquarelli Symonds University Rankings - will visit the University's College of Physical Sciences to discuss future collaborative opportunities between the two institutions.

The academics from NUS's Department of Mechanical Engineering, will tour facilities including the state of the art Oceanlab building in Newburgh, and learn more about new developments such as the new National Subsea Research.

Professor Albert Rodger, Vice Principal & Head of the College of Physical Sciences said of the visit: "Asia is a highly significant area within the oil and gas sector and Singapore is a natural hub for activity surrounding this important market.   Seeking collaborative opportunities within this geographical location is therefore a key objective for the University of Aberdeen, meeting our commitment to enhancing teaching and research through the development of both industry and academic partnerships

"From teaching exchanges to mutual collaboration on research projects, there is vast scope to develop mutually beneficial links with the National University of Singapore, an institution which is globally recognised as a world leading university.

"The intention of today's visit is to continue discussions about the strong opportunities for alliances which are available.  We are confident that we are embarking on what promises to be a prosperous future working relationship, between the two institutions."
