Another chance to enjoy a night at Marischal museum

Just as every great Hollywood blockbuster is often followed by a sequel, a hugely successful University of Aberdeen event - which was inspired by a movie - is set to return.

Last Night at the Museum will take place at Marischal Museum on Saturday 21st June, following on from the extremely popular inaugural Night at the Museum event which was held last month.

Members of the public will be invited to explore the Egyptian displays by torchlight, practise mummification with a life size mummy doll, and witness the work of Dr Moir in Aberdeen's Anatomical Theatre with the Young Archaeologists @ Aberdeen group.

A Grand Fancy Dress Parade and competition will also take place as part of the event with young visitors invited to get creative with their costumes to be in with a chance to win a selection of prizes.

The event will mark the last opportunity for visitors to enjoy the array of intriguing exhibitions the museum offers ahead of its temporary closure on 26th June, when building works on the new Aberdeen City Council Headquarters will begin.

Neil Curtis, Senior Curator of the Marischal Museum, University of Aberdeen says: "The Night at the Museum event last month was an unprecedented success with over one thousand visitors flocking through the doors of the Marischal and Zoology museums to enjoy a unique evening of tours, exhibitions and interactive activities.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer the public another opportunity to enjoy this occasion, and the timing is extremely apt ahead of the temporary closure of the museum.  With a range of activities for all age groups on offer, the occasion promises to be both entertaining and educational.

Event organiser Alison Parfitt, Education and Access Officer, Marischal Museum, University of Aberdeen adds: "The doors of Marischal museum will close to the public on the 26th June and we hope that visitors will use the Last Night at the Museum as an ideal opportunity to come in and explore this fascinating building."

"Live music, performances by entertainers including A. Juggler and an array of craft activities will also take place as part of the unique occasion, whilst visitors will also be invited to take the opportunity to view the magnificent stained glass windows of Mitchell Hall."

Last Night at the Museum will take place at Marischal Museum from 7pm – 10pm on Saturday 21st June.  The Grand Fancy Dress Parade will take place at 8pm, with prizes for the best children's costumes inspired by the Night at the Museum film.
