Teaching Fellows recognised

Teaching Fellows recognised

The important role played by Teaching Fellows from across the University was recognised this week.

More than 60 staff attended an inaugural event organised by the Centre for Learning and Teaching and supported by representatives from the Higher Education Academy (HEA), including Dr Alastair Robertson, the Senior Adviser for the HEA in Scotland.

Dr Mark Young, Academic Director for the Centre for Learning & Teaching, chaired the event and welcomed the key note speaker - Professor Kevan Gartland,  Dean of the School of Life Sciences at Glasgow Caledonian University and  Chair of the Higher Education Academy Biosciences Subject Centre Advisory Group.

Prof Gartland delivered an entertaining and thought-provoking talk - Whilst Wandering through the Groves of Academe. This was followed by presentations on the role of the HEA Subject Centres and their work to support teaching, learning and assessment in universities. These sessions were facilitated by HEA staff, Dr Stephen Maw, Anne-Margaret Campbell and Dr Julie Anderson.

The programme also included a post-event reception which provided an opportunity for informal networking for staff from across the three Colleges.

Programme organiser Dr Joy Perkins, Educational & Employability Development Adviser, said: "I am delighted that so many staff from across the three Colleges attended the event. We hope this will be the first of many events designed to support Teaching Fellows."

Cathy Macaslan, Vice-Principal for Teaching and Learning, said: "The event has been a great success and acknowledges the important contribution and role of Teaching Fellows in teaching and learning as well as heightening awareness of the valuable support available for all teaching staff from the Higher Education Academy."
