Project launched to enhance links between students and energy industry

A new project has been launched to encourage and enhance links between the energy industry and university students.

The Energy Institute Student Chapter will see students from the University of Aberdeen form a committee who will work alongside the Energy Institute, the leading chartered professional membership body for those working in energy.

The initiative aims to benefit students by providing crucial links to key professionals from within the industry. 

It is hoped the Energy Institute Student Chapter will continue to build and strengthen relationships between the industry and the University as Professor Albert Rodger, Vice Principal & Head of the College of Physical Sciences explains: "The first initiative of its kind, the Energy Student Chapter is a unique project which will further develop the strong links which the University of Aberdeen fosters with the energy sector. 

"Providing students with the opportunity to liaise with professionals from within the field is a vital method for developing their knowledge and supporting and enhancing their studies.  The project will allow participants to hear first hand the challenges facing the sector, enabling them to gain a strong understanding of the industry's requirements."

Denis Pinto, Chairman of the Aberdeen Highlands & Islands Branch of the Energy Institute says: "Developing the first ever Energy Institute Student Chapter was an important objective for the Energy Institute.  The initiative is a crucial way of driving forward relationships between key industry professionals and University of Aberdeen students who are looking to enter the energy sector in the future.  The project will be hugely beneficial to the participating students, providing them with the chance to develop their knowledge of the industry and enhance their studies.  In addition the industry will also gain from developing talent and nurturing positive relationships."

Elections to establish the students who will take part in the Energy Institute Student Chapter will take place today (Friday 25^th April) at Room 6 (NK6), New Kings College Building, Aberdeen University starting at 4pm.
