Innovate with Aberdeen – The Frontiers of Excellence

University of Aberdeen researchers from a broad spectrum of fields including life sciences, health, energy and the environment will tomorrow (Wednesday, March 5) be at Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh.

The scientists are taking part in Innovate with Aberdeen – The Frontiers of Excellence which is a showcase of pioneering research currently underway at the University of Aberdeen.

Talks, presentations and exhibitions will cover a number of research projects which include:

  • An innovative technology that is using sunlight and artificial light to treat dirty water while simultaneously generating electricity

·         The new technology that is allowing the body to produce its own new bone

·         The development of intelligent software based on remote sensors which could help the elderly and vulnerable live independently

·         Transforming technology that could revolutionise building construction

·         How new technology solutions in transport can also be low cost solutions

·         A review of sex education in schools

·         Studies into Scotland's smoking ban on bar workers' health

·         Research which could enable enhanced monitoring of the seriously injured during mountain rescue

University of Aberdeen entrepreneurs who won awards for their groundbreaking ideas to improve the equine industry and safety in mining will also be among those present.

Innovate with Aberdeen – The Frontiers of Excellence begins at 12.30pm and talks run until 5pm.  

An evening reception then begins at 6pm and features talks from Dr Stuart Monro, Scientific Director of Our Dynamic Earth; John Anderson, Chief Executive of The Entrepreneurial Exchange; Professor C Duncan Rice, Principal and Vice Chancellor, University of Aberdeen; Professor Anne Glover, Chief Scientific Adviser for Scotland and Professor Dominic Houlihan, Vice Principal for Research and Commercialisation, University of Aberdeen.
