Governor of Bank of England visits University

The Governor of the Bank of England today shared his thoughts on UK monetary policy with an invited audience at a key event organised by the University of Aberdeen Business School.

Around 100 people comprising University staff, students and representatives of the business and finance community gathered for the lunchtime reception with Mervyn King, who was welcomed to the University by its Principal, Professor C Duncan Rice.

The Governor of the Bank, which published its quarterly Inflation Report this week, gave an overview of the UK economy. He then took questions from the audience.

Head of the University's Business School, Professor Michael Hughes arranged the King's College Centre event, and was delighted Mr King was able to visit the University.

Professor Hughes said: "The University of Aberdeen Business School is extremely pleased that the Governor of the Bank of England was able to make a return visit to the University.

"Mervyn King's breadth of knowledge and insight about the UK economy and monetary policy is always fascinating and was well received.

"After his talk, a lively and interesting discussion followed from the floor, particularly from our cohort of postgraduate students of the University's Business School, and our invited guests from the Aberdeenshire business community."

The Governor added: "I always appreciate the chance to discuss and debate the issues confronting the UK economy.  This event at the University of Aberdeen certainly provided me with useful insights – much the objective that I and other members of the Monetary Policy Committee have in making these visits around the United Kingdom."
