It’s Alive!

It’s Alive!

Marvellous minibeasts, terrific trees and scary skeletons are just some of the activities on offer to the under fives at the University of Aberdeen this year.

The University of Aberdeen Natural History Centre invites nursery aged children to 'Nature Tots' - a programme where two to five year olds from in and around Aberdeen can get up close and personal with the natural world.

Over fifty under fives will visit the Centre for It's Alive, this Friday (March 30), for the first of four activity sessions running throughout 2007.

The fun-packed programme, now in its fourth year, aims to allow children to explore natural history and develop a caring attitude towards the environment.  The activities will take an intimate look at the living things from our back doorstep to wild things throughout the world.

In It's Alive, the children will find out about and get the chance to hold lots of things from fossils and huge pine cones to live bugs and enormous whale bones. They will make a Spring bookmark by collecting colours out in the Cruickshank Botanic Garden and they will also visit the Zoology Museum for a game of 'awesome animal I spy'.

Sandra Bisset, Education Assistant at the Natural History Centre, is looking forward to welcoming so many young nature lovers this Friday. She said: "The living world is a fascinating place that is full of surprises and one that children really enjoy exploring.

"The Natural History Centre is here for everyone to discover our amazing living world and that includes the very young. Most under fives are fascinated by nature and the environment and these events aim to build on that enthusiasm."

It's Alive will run on Friday, March 30, followed by Marvellous Minibeasts on June29, Scary Skeletons on September 28 and Terrific Trees on December 14.  Activities run from 10.00am – 12 noon and 2.00pm – 4.00pm.  Admission is free and booking is essential.
