Workers climb Bennachie and raise cash for cancer research

Staff at an Aberdeen e-learning company took to the hills to raise cash for breast cancer researchers at the University of Aberdeen.

Workers from Atlas Interactive pulled on their hiking boots and scaled 1,733ft Bennachie in Aberdeenshire to hold a staff meeting on Mither Tap and raise cash at the same time.

And tomorrow afternoon (February 27) they will hand over a cheque for £510 to a University researcher who is delighted at their efforts.

A member of Atlas Interactive was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Thankfully she is now in good health, but she was keen to give something back for all the support and help she received throughout her illness.

It was Atlas Interactive Chief Executive Jamie Bennett who came up with the idea of raising funds by holding their twice-yearly town hall meeting on the summit of Bennachie.

It took an hour to complete the climb but the sum raised was worth any aches and pains.

Dr Andy Schofield, who is meeting staff tomorrow, said: "We are absolutely delighted at the fundraising efforts of the staff at Atlas Interactive. Every single donation made to the breast cancer research team at the University of Aberdeen makes a real difference.

"Staff can rest assured that their money will help fund one of a number of important studies we are conducting to try to find better ways of tackling and treating this disease."
