Christmas music from King’s

A timeless collection of some of the best-loved Christmas music features on a new CD from King’s College.

The Chapel Choir of King’s College and the Aubertin organ, played by George Chittenden, and Master of Chapel Music, Roger B Williams, present a special collection of Christmas music, old and new.

The disc contains many favourite carols including O Come all ye faithful, While shepherds watched their flocks, Hark the herald angels sing, and Ding dong merrily on high.

The choir sings the evocative carols In the bleak midwinter, Adam lay y-bounden, I saw a maiden, and the beautifully restrained Dormi Jesu by John Joubert.

The organ is featured in Chorale Preludes from the classical German organ school by Buxtehude and Bach. Before each prelude the original chorale is sung, featuring several of the fine solo voices in Chapel Choir.

Dr Williams, Master of Chapel Music, said: “This is the second CD of the Aubertin organ and is the first time one of this builder’s organs has featured in an accompanying capacity.

“The beauty and flexibility of its many colourful sounds are particularly attractive features of the disc.”

Christmas Music from King’s is available online at http://www.abdnpayments.co.uk/store/ priced £11.75, or from the Music Department Office, Room 003 MacRobert Building, University of Aberdeen, King’s College, Aberdeen, AB24 5UA.
