Aberdeen passes GO as new Monopoly game launched

Aberdeen passed GO today (Friday, October 20) when the ‘Mayfair’ of the city was revealed as Marischal College.

Marischal College was voted the top spot by the public, very narrowly beating Pittodrie. It was so close the games' chiefs nearly had to throw the Monopoly dice to resolve the contest. Other favourites to appear on the board - replacing the celebrated London landmarks like Oxford Street and Park Lane – include: Union Street (3rd in the vote), Duthie Park (4th), Codonas (5th), the Airport (6th), the University of Aberdeen (7th) ... in all 33 city favourites.

Monopoly chiefs have been keeping the identities of the much-anticipated squares close to their Community Chests and under their trademark top hats for months. But all was revealed today at the unveiling of Marischal College as the ‘Mayfair’ of the city.

Today’s launch comes on the same day as the game hits city shop shelves. The game is official - it's identical in spirit and shape to the traditional one, bar the streets. It is fully legally sanctioned by Monopoly owners Hasbro. The money, counters and rules are the same as the original - only the street names change.

The city beat Dundee, Inverness and Perth in an 'X - Factor' style vote public poll. Landmarks on the new board include Codonas, which appears on a yellow square with a price tag of just £260!

Stores stocking the new game include WH Smiths, Woolworths, Debenhams, Toys R Us, Waterstones, Borders & and lots of other leading toy, game and book stores.

The game can also be bought online at: www.winningmoves.co.uk

Monopoly is played in 26 different languages & and sold in 80 different countries. It is estimated ‘Go’ has been passed approximately 13,000 MILLION times since the game was first invented by out of work heating engineer Charles B. Darrow in Pennsylvania in the US in 1935.
