Energy in the 21st Century - A Rough Ride Ahead

One of the world’s leading thinkers on the oil industry is visiting the University of Aberdeen tomorrow (Tuesday, January 24) to give a special lecture to invited guests.

Matt Simmons, Chairman of Simmons & Company International, a specialised energy investment banking firm, will deliver his lecture, Energy in the 21st Century - A Rough Ride Ahead to more than 150 guests, including oil executives, energy groups, MSPs, and local dignitaries.

Mr Simmons is a frequent speaker at government forums, energy symposiums and many leading energy companies around the world.

This fascinating lecture being delivered tomorrow evening will discuss the future of the energy in the 21st Century and will be a platform for Mr Simmons to present his ideas on oil reserves and energy.

His recently published book, Twilight in the Desert: The Coming Saudi Oil Shock and the World Economy became a Wall Street best-seller and has been described as "likely to be the most important ever written about oil".

Professor Dominic Houlihan, Vice-Principal (Research & Commercialisation), University of Aberdeen, is delighted that Mr Simmons has accepted the University’s invitation to visit the institution. He said: "Matt Simmons is an extremely well-known energy expert whose controversial ideas on energy use chime well with the Bush regime, as well as by oil executives across the globe.

“I am delighted that someone of his stature is visiting the University of Aberdeen and that he will be captivating guests at his lecture, Energy in the 21st Century - A Rough Ride Ahead. His lecture represents an exciting opportunity to hear an acknowledged, world expert present his ideas on oil reserves and energy."

Signed copies of his book will be available to purchase on the evening.

Mr Simmons has published numerous energy papers for industry journals and is a frequent speaker at government forums, energy symposiums and in board rooms of many leading energy companies around the world.

Professor Houlihan will provide an introduction to the audience at the lecture, which begins at 6.00pm. Following the lecture, there will be an opportunity for guests to ask Mr Simmons questions. The lecture will take place at the University’s King's College Centre and will be followed by a wine reception.
