World premiere of new music at Cowdray Hall

New work by composer Naresh Sohal will be given its world premiere during a free lunchtime concert by the Edinburgh Quartet at the Cowdray Hall tomorrow (Thursday, November 17).

Naresh will give an introduction to the music – simply entitled “Quartet No. 2” - before the concert, and there will also be an opportunity for the audience to discuss the work afterwards.

The concert is presented as part of the sound festival, and has been made possible thanks to Scottish Arts Council funding.

This is the latest in the autumn/winter series of Lunchbreak Concerts, which are staged every Thursday in the Cowdray Hall.

The programme was devised by artistic advisor Dr Roger B Williams, Director of Music at the University of Aberdeen.

Dr Williams said: “I am delighted that the second string quartet of the distinguished composer Naresh Sohal will be given its world premiere at the Lunchbreak Concert this week.

“The composer will introduce his work and this link with the new sound festival will make the concert an important and exciting event.”

The weekly concerts offer an alternative and relaxing way to spend your lunch hour. Each of the concerts starts at 12.45pm and finishes at 1.30pm.

Admission to the Cowdray Hall, on Schoolhill, is free of charge although donations are welcome. Refreshments provided by the friends of Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums will be on sale.
