University arranges pick-ups for Open Day visitors

Preparations are well underway for the University of Aberdeen’s annual Open Day and bookings for this year’s event are soaring. It is anticipated that upwards of 4,000 people will descend on the King’s College and Foresterhill campuses next week for one of the biggest events in the University calendar (Tuesday, August 23).

For visitors travelling from further afield, this year’s event promises to be the best yet with a packed programme of events planned to showcase the University, ranging from presentations and departmental activities, to exhibitions, demonstrations and campus tours.

Organisers have also come up with a solution to help visitors with their travelling needs. When visitors register to attend next week’s Open Day, they can choose to be collected at either Aberdeen airport, or from the train or bus stations in the city. However, in order to take advantage of the pick-ups on offer, visitors must book in advance of the event either online: www.abdn.ac.uk/openday or alternatively by contacting the Student Recruitment and Admissions team on freephone 0800 027 1495.

The University’s Marketing Officer, Lesley MacLennan, explained: “The pick-up service being offered will ensure that travel to and from the University is quick, easy and hassle-free for our visitors.

“We would like to make the event as accessible as possible for visitors travelling from all over the UK and Europe and would like to encourage as many visitors from outwith the North-East of Scotland to come along to next Tuesday’s Open Day.“

The aim of the Open Day is to provide an opportunity for prospective students to find out more about what the University has to offer. Parents, teachers and friends are also welcome and it is anticipated that over 4,000 visitors will visit, some from as far afield as Italy, Greece, and Germany.

They will be able to attend a party at The Union, stay overnight in University Halls of Residence, meet with staff, attend mini-lectures and sample student life. A Parents’ Evening has also been arranged for the evening of 22nd August, to be held at Marischal Museum with the chance to see the stunning Mitchell Hall, site of the Universities graduation ceremonies.

The School of Medicine at Foresterhill will also have an interesting programme, including interactive demonstrations at the Clinical Skills Centre, a careers presentation and general information on the University.

Visitors can come on their own or as part of a school party. Parents, teachers and guidance staff are also invited to join us. There will be a Chill Out Zone especially for them to get away from the hustle and bustle and talk to key academics about the University.

The Open Day team is ready to take bookings from visitors from across the UK and further afield. Places can be booked online by visiting: www.abdn.ac.uk/openday or alternatively contact the Student Recruitment and Admissions team on freephone 0800 027 1495.
